That’s right, our failing public schools are helping to create generational poverty. But I am writing this article to provide a solution. Yes I will examine the many reasons for our failing public Schools.
First I would like to quote Mr. Eldridge Cleaver ‘There is no more neutrality in the world. You either have to be part of the solution, or you’re going to be part of the problem.’
Though I do not agree with everything Mr. Cleaver said and did, I do agree with the above quote.
There have been several interpretations of this quote, but I like this one the best. If you don’t take direct action to make things better you’re an obstacle to change.
And I will get to the Solution that Our Amazing Online Community has started.
But First we need to look at just a few of the Reasons for our Failing Public School System
On average, ‘the United States spent $14,347 per Student in 2021 on Public Education’. This is according to an Annual Survey of School System Finances that was released by the U.S. Census Bureau on May 18, 2023. And by the end of the 2023-2024 School Year that number is projected to be in excess of $17,000. But what is the cost to our Children. And if you have a child enrolled in one of our many failing public schools, then these next few paragraphs will come as no surprise.
- Many of Our Public Schools are Experiencing a Shortage of Teachers. Nationwide the estimate is a shortage of at least 55,000 Teachers. Unfortunately, many of these vacancies are in the poorer areas of our major cities and rural communities. Neither one can provide a viable alternative for the Children stuck in those areas. And the Parents in these communities cannot afford the cost of transporting their Children to better schools, sometimes many miles away.*(see notes below)
- The Public School System in Many States Have Under Qualified Teachers in Many of their Classrooms. Some estimates have this number as high as 270,000 thousand.*(see notes below)
These two problems have created even more stress for the students and teachers trapped in these failing Public School Districts.
And here are just a few of those Problems.
- Classrooms are Overcrowded. According to Learner.com the ideal Student/Teacher Ratio should not exceed 18/1.**(see below) The average number of students per classroom is actually closer to 24.***(see below)
- Because the state mandated Max-Capacity for many schools has already been reached, Many students cannot enroll. At least not at the Public School closest to their residence. And the Parents of many of these children have no way of getting their children to a school where they can enroll.
- Violence and Crime in Our Public Schools. Most children are intelligent enough to understand they are not getting an education. And this breeds anger and resentment. Which leads to an increase in violence and crime. Thus creating a vicious circle.(Opinion)
I could continue writing about these problems. And how they are creating generational poverty. But I think it is time to introduce our solution.
