All Classes are Recorded and Available online: This allows for students who missed a “live Class” to go back and review the material and catch up. Maybe having the “lightbulb” go on after review. This also allows students who do understand the material to advance through the curriculum at a pace more suited to their abilities.
Teacher Selection is in the Hands of the Parents and the Students:
This is of course dependent on teacher availability and their schedule. But because it is a Virtual Campus, this allows the student to have access to all available teachers for their grade level. And of course there are tutoring programs as well.
Now I Would Like to Introduce Some of Our Wonderful Teachers That have Recently Joined Us At Brainfood Academy:
WENDY NARUSE/1st Grade Math
or Ms. Wendy to her students is joining us as our 1st grade math teacher. She will be joined by her assistant, a stuffed animal named Felix. She brings with her 3 years experience as a tutor in math as well as a background in Special Education to our Brainfood Academy. Her classes will be originating the Aloha State of Hawaii. Her history as a special education instructor gives Ms. Wendy an understanding of many diverse needs; these include sensory processing disorders like dyslexia and autism. All of this combined should make for an engaging learning experience for her students.
DR. CASSANDRA MMABATHO HAWKINS/Language Arts
is a retired teacher with 29 years in the classroom. She will be bringing her passion for the Art of Language and character development to her 7th and 11th grade Language Arts Students here at Brainfood Academy. And with her background in Speech, Theatre, and Communications she will be able foster creative problem-solving techniques for her students. She also has a Doctor of Ministry Degree as well. This allows her to teach Bible stories that foster spiritual growth and valuable life lessons.
COREY HAMILTON/Math
will be your child’s dedicated Math Teacher and he has a Passion for dispelling those debilitating Math Phobia’s. He does this by unlocking the beauty of math and emphasizing the relevance it has in everyday life. And by focusing on its fundamental principals he makes math a source of joy, not something that should be feared. Mr. Hamilton has made it his mission to empower the students in his class with the ability to conquer the MATH. Everything from basic Math to the advanced math’s like Algebra and Trigonometry, he will teach your child all of it. So let your child harness their Brain Power with the wonder that is Mathematics with Mr. Hamilton as their guide.
JAY FISH/Sign Language
Meet Mrs. Fish, as Our dedicated Sign Language instructor she will teach your child to communicate with gestures and expressions. Although she faces her own challenges, she loves teaching and believes every student has potential. With her interactive teaching approach she wants to instill in her students the joy communicating through language, music and even sign language. She also has a deep understanding of the unique culture inside the Deaf community, bringing a unique approach for teaching her students how to learn and connect. JACKIE STARLING/Reading and Math
Jackie Starling is a Graduate of the University of Florida (GO GATORS). Her degree is in Elementary Education and she also minored in science. She specialized as a teacher in the areas of elementary level reading and math. And her passion is to help her students develop a love for both! And she will be teaching your 1st graders in both. Her reading development will cover Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, Fluency, Handwriting, Grammar, and Punctuation. While in her Math Class they will learn Counting and Cardinality, Operations and Algebraic Thinking, Number and Operations in Base Ten, Measurement and Data, and also Geometry. Then as their 4th Grade Math teacher, Your child will learn skills like Numbers/Operations in Base Ten, Operations and algebraic Thinking, Numbers/Operations on Fractions and Decimals, Measurement and Data, Geometry, and Mathematical Reasoning as well as Problem Solving.
DAWN TULINI/Language Arts and Social Studies
Mrs. Tulini is a veteran Special Education and General Education Teacher with a variety of classroom experiences. Teaching in Special Education for 1st and 2nd grades, a 4th and 5th grade teacher, she has also given supplemental support to grades 9 and 10. She gained experience in online education using Google Classroom breakout rooms during the Pandemic. And in June of 2022 she retired from a school that served primarily low-income families. She has a passion for teaching and it has always shined through everything she has done.
During her tenure here at Brainfood Academy Mrs. Tulini will be teaching Language Arts and Social Studies for the 1st thru 5th grades and High School as well. She will also be teaching Science to your 3rd and 4th graders as well. And if needed she can also instruct math for grades 1-4. Her experience and dedication to teaching is a great addition to our Faculty. And we are sure that both parents and their children will enjoy the learning experience in her classroom.
EMILIO CANTU/Music Teacher
With Mr. Cantu your child will get a dedicated Music teacher with a desire to transfer his passion for the world of music to his students. He does this by showing his students how music is a part of their everyday life. His goal at Brainfood Academy will be the education of his students on reading musical chords and offering separate guitar lessons. Because of his experience and knowledge of music, he hopes to nurture his students into becoming skillful musicians. His course on creating Mariachi Bands has been recognized as a grade for credit in the State of Texas. His desire is to share his love of Music with students of all ages.
FRANCINE JACKSON/Physics and Astronomy
Professor Francine Jackson will be your child’s Physics and Astronomy teacher. And she will be dedicated sharing her passion for unraveling the mysteries of the universe with her students. Her desire is to instill in her students that “Science” is not just a class that they need to pass, but how it is utilized in our everyday lives. As our Physics and Astronomy Teacher, Professor Jackson’s goal is to foster in her students a sense of wonder and curiosity about celestial objects and physical phenomena. Her desire is to challenge and enlighten students about the world of Physics and Astronomy. And she does this by revealing the numerical foundations of our universe. Join in her exploration of this captivating realm of science. Get ready to have your eyes opened to the beauty and significance of the Cosmos. And becoming more aware of essential role science has in everything we do.
